Farms For City Kids is a unique educational program located at Spring Brook Farm in Reading, Vermont. It combines classroom studies with firsthand farming experience to give urban kids an understanding of how vital academics are to everyday lives. The program is conducted on a thousand-acre farm where students engage in hands-on farming tasks, learning to care for farm animals, and growing fruits and vegetables. The farm is home to over 100 registered Jerseys, and the milk produced is used to make artisanal cheeses. The program also includes a City Kids Adventure Learning program for alumni, focusing on wilderness and survival skills. The farm is part of the Vermont Land Trust conservation program and has been providing programming at no cost to visiting schools for over 25 years. The program is supported by donations and offers on-farm sales of cheese and maple products.
